Are you still shuddering from images of Hurricane Katrina?
Do you wish you could do something more for women in New Orleans whose lives were shattered in 2005—and still are in a million pieces?
Well now you can. Easily. And there’s no dealing with FEMA.
Volunteers by the bus load are trekking down to the Louisiana Superdome on April 11-12 to care for almost 5000 Gulf South women at V TO THE TENTH, the 10th anniversary of V-Day, the international event inspired by Eve Ensler’s seminal play Vagina Monologues.
The Superdome is being renamed SUPERLOVE just for this weekend. Wow.
SUPERLOVE performers include Jane Fonda, Oprah Winfrey, Salma Hayek, Glenn Close, Jessica Alba, Faith Hill and now YOU. And all you have to do is pick up a pen (keep reading).
Why are all these powerhouse women gathering in the once-atrocious hurricane shelter? Because Eve Ensler is a on a serious mission with V-Day: let’s end all violence to women and girls. And what a better place to bring SUPERLOVE than a city and her people who’ve endured more suffering than we think is imaginable in our own country.
Tired, frazzled, abused and battered, little hope. This is daily life today for many women and girls in NOLA. It really puts I-285 traffic into perspective, doesn’t’ it?
Let’s change the channel. Tune into V-Day April 2008, just a few weeks away. Now imagine the look on a Gulf South mother’s wearied face as she is welcomed into the SUPERLOVE wellness suites to receive free massage, yoga, medical information and yes, Authentic Beauty makeovers.
Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Fifteen minutes of pampering under the expert, loving hands of an Authentic Beauty volunteer. FEMA who? Where’s my daiquiri!
For less than a half tank of gas, you can transform these women’s lives and give them of gift of beauty. Really. Today you can buy and sign an affirmation card that will be put straight into the hands of a Katrina survivor who lost everything. Hug included. All for about ten dollars.
How is this happening, you ask? Authentic Beauty is taking volunteer artists to SUPERLOVE and giving free makeovers. For CEO Alyson Hoag knows that when a woman is returned to her sense of beauty, she can deal with the ugliness of her situation. Right on. Where’s that pen?
You see, makeup will be washed off at some point that night. Then what do these women do? Well, they’ll have in their possession a You Shine Through positive affirmation card with words of encouragement by you.
Do you remember the last time you got a personal hand-written note by anyone? Kinda special, hun? We all say the world needs just “a little more kindness” and nowhere in America is kindness more sorely needed than in New Orleans.
So become a SUPERLOVE hero and buy a You Shine Through positive affirmation card now. There’ll be a look of unspeakable appreciation on some woman’s face as she reads your words. And we’ll be right there with the tissue and the hug.
Thanks for being a hero today. Easy, huh?
