The Authentic Beauty TeamOn February 22 I found out there were only 10 artists (maybe) to makeover the City of New Orleans. Where was I going to find artists willing to give up a weekend in April (wedding season), take a bus to New Orleans in the middle of the night, drive 7 hours only to stand on their feet all day, for 2 days, making over as many as 5000, share 4 to a room and not be paid; all for the privlege of making a difference?
I FOUND THEM or should I say they found me.
I want to say a special thank you to Joanna Wallington for all of her help. She not only helped to design the space for the studio party(among many, many things), she found most of our
atists. She would phone me nearly everyday to reassure me it was all going to work out. At 9pm, the night we were leaving , an artist cancelled on us. At 10:40pm she had another one packing her bags for the midnight departure! Joanna ran around New Orleans making sure the artists had everything we needed. Joanna is currently looking for a job. Her specialty is in visual display merchandising but I think she can do ANYTHING.

I have never been part of a team like the one we had for this event. From the moment we got on the bus we were a team although we had just met. I only knew 6 of the 13 people before we got on the bus. Everyone worked together seamlessly and synergistically. No one complained. The mantra of the weekend was “make it happen”. We were given very few instructions by V-Day. We made it up as we went along and this team MADE IT HAPPEN. We touched over 2000 women in 2 days many of whom had emotional releases when they looked in the mirror and were given their affirmation card. I saw love, compassion and SERVICE when I looked around our beauty lounge. HOWEVER, make NO mistake that these people threw down! I have never been around a more fun, passionate and ALIVE group. Everyone wanted to be a part of the Authentic Beauty because we were fully self-expressed! I do believe we were all there when they kicked us out of the after party at the W.
Thank you for all of your hard work and commitment to the women of New Orleans and to me.
I will never be the same. I am so motivated for us to have another event because I miss you all SO much.
